1.5SMC series — standoff, clamping, and surge handling
The 1.5SMC62A TR13 PBFREE: The 1.5SMC62A is a unidirectional Zener-based TVS diode in the DO-214AB (SMC) package — one of the workhorse clampers for board-level transient suppression on power rails up to about 48 V nominal. The 5 V gap between standoff and minimum breakdown gives enough headroom that normal 48 V rail transients don't fire the clamp — only an overvoltage event pushes it into conduction. At 85 V clamping, downstream circuitry rated for 100 V input sees real protection, not a borderline standoff. The Pb-free finish on the SMC terminations suits RoHS-compliant assembly flows — the tin-plated leads are reflow-solderable in a standard SnAgCu profile without special thermal profiling beyond the IPC/JEDEC J-STD-020 moisture-sensitivity floor for this package size. Mounting is surface-mount only — the DO-214AB SMC lands to a PCB with two large cathode stripes, which are unambiguous on any datasheet footprint drawing: the cathode band is the wider pad. Polarity matters; a TVS wired backward is a forward-conduction diode, not a suppressor. No lab equipment needed to verify orientation if the board silkscreen is present.
