The MAX3245EETX packs three RS-232 drivers and five receivers — enough to handle a full serial port with handshake lines plus a second port's receive pair. The 1 Mbps data rate is comfortably above the 115.2 kbps that most legacy equipment uses, so you get margin for higher-speed UART links without pushing the edge.
Supply flexibility and temperature range
It runs from a single 3V to 5.5V rail, so you can drop it onto a 3.3V or 5V logic bus without a second regulator.
Package and footprint realities
The 36-WFQFN with exposed pad — the supplier device package is 36-TQFN 6x6 mm. That exposed paddle needs a thermal via array under the pad to pull heat into the ground plane. The 0.5 mm pitch demands a soldermask-defined pad and a stencil aperture that doesn't bridge; a rework station with hot air is the right tool if you're hand-assembling prototypes.
Active production and sourcing posture
Analog Devices is the sole source; there is no official second-source cross-reference. The part is RoHS non-compliant, so if your BOM requires RoHS exemption documentation, flag that at quote time.
