220 µH wirewound in a 1007 footprint
The LBC2518T221K is a 220 µH wirewound inductor from Taiyo Yuden's LB, C Type series, rated for 80 mA continuous current in a 1007 (2518 Metric) surface-mount package.
What the ratings mean for your BOM line
220 µH at 796 kHz test frequency: this is the inductance value a designer targets for a specific ripple current or cutoff frequency. The 80 mA current rating is the continuous DC ceiling — exceeding it saturates the core and collapses the inductance. The 8.4 Ohm DCR is the series resistance that generates heat and drops voltage; at 80 mA the voltage drop across the winding is 0.67 V. Self-resonant frequency is 5.5 MHz. Above that point the inductor's parasitic capacitance dominates and the component behaves capacitively — keep the switching or signal frequency well below 5.5 MHz to maintain inductive impedance. Unshielded construction means the magnetic field radiates into the surrounding PCB area. Adjacent traces carrying sensitive analog signals or high-impedance nodes need clearance or a ground plane between them and this inductor.
The footprint matches standard 1007 land patterns — no special pad geometry required.
