NRND — what that means for a BOM line
Taiyo Yuden lists the LBC2012T1R0M as Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND). Existing designs can still source this part through independent distribution, but new BOMs should plan for a current-series alternative. For a production line already qualified on this 0805 footprint, the LB, C series may have a direct replacement — confirm the inductance, current rating, and DCR against the current catalog.
1 µH, 620 mA — the parametric envelope
Rated 1 µH ±20% at 7.96 MHz test frequency with a 620 mA DC current rating. The 190 mOhm DCR sets the I²R loss — at full rated current, dissipation is roughly 73 mW, which is manageable for the 0805 body but does contribute to self-heating in a confined layout. Unshielded construction means the magnetic field is not contained within a ferrite sleeve. In a dense PCB with sensitive analog or RF traces within a few millimeters, the stray field from this inductor can couple noise into adjacent loops. For power rail filtering where the inductor sits away from signal paths, the unshielded drum core is a cost-effective choice. Self-resonant frequency is 100 MHz; above that the component behaves capacitively. For a 1 µH inductor, 100 MHz SRF is typical of a ferrite-core drum winding — adequate for DC-DC converter switching frequencies up to a few MHz where the impedance is still inductive. The ferrite core material (Mn-Zn) maintains permeability across this band, though the DCR increases with temperature per the copper winding's positive temperature coefficient.
0805 footprint — board integration
The land pattern follows standard IPC-7351 for 0805 chip components — the solder pads should be sized for the 1.25 mm width with adequate toe fillet on the terminations. Tape & Reel packaging (Cut Tape also available) supports automated pick-and-place. The reel quantity is not stated here, but a typical 0805 inductor reel from Taiyo Yuden ships in 7-inch reels with 3000 pieces per reel.
