What the selectable acceleration range means for your BOM
The LIS2DHTR is a 3-axis digital accelerometer from STMicroelectronics with a selectable acceleration range of ±2g, ±4g, ±8g, or ±16g, allowing the same part to serve applications from low-g tilt sensing to high-g impact detection without changing the BOM line. Sensitivity scales inversely with range: 1000 LSB/g at ±2g drops to 83 LSB/g at ±16g, so a ±2g setting gives finer resolution for vibration monitoring while ±16g suits shock recording in portable devices.
Digital interface and bandwidth flexibility
Output is digital via I²C or SPI, eliminating the need for an external ADC and simplifying layout in space-constrained designs like wearables or IoT nodes. Bandwidth is programmable from 0.5 Hz to 672 Hz, matching the sensor's response to the mechanical system's natural frequency — lower bandwidth filters out machine vibration noise, higher bandwidth captures fast motion transients.
Industrial temperature grade and on-chip extras
Built-in features include an adjustable bandwidth filter, selectable scale, sleep mode for battery conservation, and an integrated temperature sensor that provides a local die-temperature readout over the same digital bus.
