Active dual-channel optoisolator for industrial isolation
The Renesas PS9851-2-V-F3-AX is a dual-channel, push-pull output optoisolator from the NEPOC series, rated for 2500 Vrms isolation and a 15 Mbps data rate. It integrates two isolated channels in a single 8-pin SOIC package, with a totem-pole output that eliminates the need for a pull-up resistor on the logic side. Typical applications include digital isolation for industrial fieldbus interfaces, PLC digital I/O modules, motor-drive feedback paths, and isolated sensor links where common-mode transient immunity of 10 kV/µs is required to reject fast switching noise.
The 15 Mbps data rate and 60 ns max propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) place this part in the speed tier needed for isolating CAN transceivers, RS-485 lines, and high-speed digital I/O without adding a full clock cycle of latency. The push-pull output drives a logic rail directly at 2 mA per channel, so no external pull-up or pull-down resistor is needed on the output side — a BOM simplification that also saves board area. Rise and fall times are typically 4 ns, keeping signal edges clean enough for 15 Mbps NRZ data.
Isolation and CMTI — fit for motor-drive and inverter environments
With 2500 Vrms isolation and a minimum common-mode transient immunity of 10 kV/µs, this optoisolator is sized for basic isolation in industrial equipment where fast-switching IGBTs or SiC MOSFETs create high dV/dt events across the isolation barrier. The 10 kV/µs CMTI rating means the output will not glitch when a 10 kV/µs common-mode step appears across the barrier — a key parameter for gate-drive feedback, current-sense isolation, and inverter-phase voltage sensing.
Supply voltage and input drive
The input side is a DC-coupled LED with a typical forward voltage of 1.6 V and a maximum forward current of 20 mA. For a 5 V logic input, a series resistor of about 180 Ω sets the LED current near 16 mA, which is within the 20 mA max and provides sufficient optical drive for the 15 Mbps switching. The input side has two channels (inputs side 1/side 2: 2/0), meaning both LED inputs are on the same side of the package.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the latest EU restriction-of-hazardous-substances directive for lead-free soldering and material composition.
