Single-channel optocoupler with base access
The PS8501L2-V-E3-AX: The PS8501L2-V--AX: The Renesas PS8501L2-V--AX is a single-channel DC-input optocoupler from the NEPOC series, delivering 5000Vrms of galvanic isolation between input and output. The output is a phototransistor with the base brought out to a separate pin, giving the designer the option to add base-emitter resistance for speed adjustment or to bias the transistor for improved CTR linearity. It comes in an 8-SMD gull-wing package rated for surface-mount assembly.
Isolation voltage and temperature range
With 5000Vrms isolation, this part suits applications requiring a reinforced safety barrier — think motor-drive feedback, industrial PSU feedback loops, or PLC digital inputs where the primary and secondary sides must stay electrically separate.
Switching speed and drive margins
Typical turn-on time of 220ns and turn-off of 350ns make this optocoupler fast enough for isolated gate drive at moderate switching frequencies (tens of kHz) and for serial data isolation up to a few Mbps. The minimum current transfer ratio of 15% at 16mA forward current means the output transistor can sink at least 2.4mA with 16mA through the LED — enough to drive a logic input or a small relay coil directly. Maximum forward current is 25mA, so the LED is not easily overstressed in a typical 5V or 3.3V driven circuit with a series resistor.
Lifecycle and compliance
ROHS3 compliant, no exemption issues for EU markets.
