5000Vrms isolation in a 6-SOIC — what it buys you
The Renesas NEPOC PS8302L2-V-AX is a single-channel transistor-output optocoupler in a 6-SOIC package (6.80 mm width). Its headline number is the 5000Vrms isolation rating — that is reinforced isolation for mains-voltage separation in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and PLC digital inputs. The 6-SOIC footprint keeps the board area tight while still providing the creepage distance needed for 250 V working voltage in pollution degree 2 environments.
CTR floor and switching speed — design budget numbers
The minimum current transfer ratio is 15% at 16 mA forward current. That means with 16 mA through the LED, the output transistor can only guarantee 2.4 mA collector current (15% of 16 mA). If your load needs the full 8 mA per channel rating, you will need to push the LED harder — the absolute maximum forward current is 25 mA, so there is headroom. The typical turn-on time is 300 ns, turn-off 330 ns, which is fast enough for 1–2 Mbps isolated serial links or high-speed PLC input sampling without additional pulse-stretching.
-55°C to 110°C — field-service reality check
The 110°C upper limit is above the typical 85°C industrial ceiling, so you get margin in hot enclosures. The output transistor is rated for 35 V maximum, which is fine for 24 V industrial logic levels with some headroom for transients.
