Quad-channel isolation for industrial I/O
The Renesas NEPOC PS2811-4-V-F3-A is a quad-channel phototransistor optocoupler in a 16-SSOP surface-mount package. It provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between a DC input LED and a transistor output, with a current transfer ratio (CTR) guaranteed between 100% and 400% at a forward current of 1mA. The wide CTR range means the designer sizes the input resistor for the minimum 100% CTR to guarantee a logic-level output at the collector, while the 400% ceiling accommodates LED degradation and temperature drift over the -55°C to 100°C operating range. Each channel can sink up to 40mA with a maximum output voltage of 40V, making it suitable for PLC digital inputs, motor-drive feedback, and isolated sensor interfaces where four isolated channels are needed in a single package.
Speed limits and timing budget
This part is not intended for high-speed isolated data links (use a digital isolator or high-speed optocoupler for that); it is designed for DC-level sensing, status feedback, and low-speed serial interfaces where propagation delay in the tens of microseconds is acceptable. The 300mV maximum Vce saturation at the output ensures a clean logic-low when the phototransistor is turned on.
Package and mounting for production
The 16-SSOP footprint is shared with other NEPOC quad-channel optocouplers, so a board layout can accommodate multiple CTR or output-type variants without a PCB respin. The -55°C to 100°C operating temperature range covers cold-start and warm cabinet conditions typical of factory-floor and outdoor telecom gear.
Lifecycle and compliance
The NEPOC series is Renesas's standard optocoupler family, widely used in industrial and consumer applications.
