3750Vrms isolation in a 4-SMD gull-wing package
The PS2701A-1-V-F3-A is a single-channel optoisolator from Renesas's NEPOC series, pairing a DC-input LED with a phototransistor output in a 4-SMD gull-wing package. Its 3750Vrms isolation rating provides basic safety isolation for separating low-voltage control logic from higher-voltage load circuits, common in industrial I/O modules, PLC interfaces, and isolated sensor feedback paths. The transistor output can switch up to 70V and 30mA, suiting level-shifting and logic-signal isolation in 24V industrial buses.
The current transfer ratio spans 50% minimum to 300% maximum at a 5mA forward current, giving the designer a predictable gain window for driving a logic input or a downstream transistor. A CTR of 50% at 5mA means the output transistor can sink at least 2.5mA, enough to pull a TTL or CMOS input low with margin. The 300% ceiling keeps the output from saturating too hard at high LED drive, which would slow turn-off. Typical rise and fall times are 5µs and 7µs respectively, limiting the usable switching frequency to roughly 50-70 kHz — fine for 10kHz PWM or 115kbps serial isolation, but not for high-speed data links.
Temperature range and environment
Rated for -55°C to 100°C operating temperature, this opto handles cold-start in outdoor telecom cabinets and the waste heat inside a sealed industrial enclosure. The 100°C ceiling is the ambient limit, not junction — derate output current if running near the top end. Storage temperature is wider, but the part is MSL-rated per the package; the gull-wing leads reflow easily with standard lead-free profiles.
Lifecycle and compliance
The NEPOC series has broad distribution support; the PS2701A-1-V-F3-A is the tape-and-reel variant of the base PS2701A-1, which simplifies inventory management for volume builds. No official second-source cross is listed, but the PS2801C-4-V-A is a four-channel sibling with the same 300mV Vce(sat) and 5µs/7µs timing — useful if your BOM needs a multi-channel drop-in for a different board revision.
