Single-channel optocoupler with 5 kV isolation for industrial isolation barriers
The Renesas PS2565L2-1-F3-A is a single-channel transistor-output optocoupler in the NEPOC series, housed in a 4-SMD Gull Wing package for surface-mount assembly. It provides 5000Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output, making it a fit for breaking ground loops and protecting low-voltage logic from high-side transients in industrial controls, power supplies, and motor drives. The input accepts both AC and DC drive, which simplifies polarity-insensitive designs — you can wire the LED in either direction or feed it from an AC-coupled signal without an external bridge. Current transfer ratio spans 80% to 400% at a forward current of 5 mA. That wide spread means the design must be biased for the minimum CTR to guarantee saturation under worst-case LED aging and temperature; the upper end gives headroom for low-drive applications but also sets the switching speed floor — higher CTR parts tend to switch slower.
Typical rise and fall times are 3 µs and 5 µs respectively, which limits practical switching frequencies to roughly 100 kHz or below. This is not a part for high-speed isolated data links (use a digital isolator for that), but it works well for status feedback, relay drivers, and low-frequency signal isolation where the 3 µs/5 µs edge rates are well within the timing budget. The 100°C ceiling limits use to industrial and commercial equipment rather than engine-bay applications.
Package, mounting, and compliance
The PS2565L2-1-F3-A is supplied in a 4-SMD Gull Wing package for surface-mount reflow assembly.
Lifecycle and sourcing
That part is not a pin-compatible replacement (different channel count and package), but it can serve as a design alternative for multi-channel boards where 2.5 kV isolation is sufficient.
