Single-channel Darlington optocoupler with 5 kV isolation
The Renesas NEPOC PS2514L-1Y-A is a single-channel Darlington-output optocoupler in a 4-SMD Gull Wing package, rated for 5000Vrms isolation. It accepts DC input and delivers a Darlington transistor output capable of switching up to 40V at 20mA per channel. The current transfer ratio spans 50% to 200% at a forward current of 5mA, and the typical forward voltage is 1.1V.
The 5000Vrms isolation voltage is the primary safety spec — it allows this part to be used in reinforced-insulation applications such as medical equipment or industrial motor drives where galvanic separation between high-voltage and low-voltage domains is mandatory. The Darlington output with a maximum Vce saturation of 350mV means the output can sink 20mA with less than 0.35V drop, which is clean enough to drive a 5V logic input or a small relay without an extra buffer transistor. The 50% to 200% CTR range at 5mA forward current gives you a predictable gain window: at minimum CTR, 5mA in yields at least 2.5mA out, which is sufficient to pull a 5V logic line low through a 2.2kΩ pull-up. The 15µs typical rise and fall times are adequate for DC-level sensing or low-speed data at a few kHz, but not for high-speed serial buses.
For a production BOM, this means no immediate supply risk from discontinuation.
Package and mounting for PCB integration
The 4-SMD Gull Wing package with a supplier device package of 4-SMD is a surface-mount footprint. The Gull Wing leads provide good coplanarity for automated pick-and-place and reflow soldering.
