Dual 4-bit buffer for 3.3V logic buses
The Renesas 74FCT3244PGG is a dual-element, 4-bit-per-element non-inverting buffer with 3-state outputs, housed in a 20-TSSOP package. It operates from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply, making it a direct fit for 3.3V logic systems in industrial control, telecom line cards, and mixed-voltage backplanes. Each output can source 8mA and sink 24mA, enough to drive a moderately loaded bus or a bank of LED indicators without external line drivers.
2.7V to 3.6V supply — 3.3V logic native
The supply range covers 3.3V nominal with margin for both regulation droop and overvoltage. At 3.3V the part accepts standard 3.3V CMOS and LVTTL input levels without external translation. If your bus runs at 2.5V, the Vih threshold at 2.7V minimum supply may still work, but the datasheet should be checked for the actual Vih/Vil levels at that rail — the part is characterised for 2.7V to 3.6V, not below.
Industrial temperature grade: -40°C to 85°C
Rated for the full industrial temperature range, the 74FCT3244PGG suits outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor PLC I/O modules, and HVAC controllers where ambient can swing from a cold start to a hot enclosure. The 20-TSSOP package's thermal performance is adequate for the modest output currents; no heatsinking is needed.
Output drive: 8mA source, 24mA sink
The asymmetric drive — stronger sink than source — is typical of 3.3V logic buffers and matches the load characteristics of most CMOS inputs and small relays. For a 24mA sink per output, the total package current should be summed across all eight outputs and kept within the device's absolute maximum rating (not listed here, but typically 50-100mA for TSSOP-20).
Active lifecycle — no LTB pressure
The 74FCT3244PGG carries an Active product status. As with any active logic part, periodic PCN monitoring is prudent, but no urgent qualification of a second source is required.
