16-bit bidirectional bus transceiver for 5V industrial backplanes
The Renesas 74FCT16245ETPVG is a 16-bit non-inverting transceiver with 3-state outputs, organized as two 8-bit elements with independent direction and output-enable controls. It handles bidirectional data flow on a 5V bus with 32mA output high and 64mA output low drive, enough to fan out to multiple loads without external line drivers. The 48-SSOP package (7.50mm body width) keeps the board footprint compact for dense backplane designs.
If the rest of the board runs 3.3V, this part needs a local 5V regulator or a level-shifted bus segment. The 32mA/64mA asymmetric drive (high/low) is typical of FCT logic — the stronger low-side sink handles the higher capacitive load of a heavily loaded data bus. No need for external bus-hold or pull-up resistors on most runs.
The 74FCT series has broad distribution coverage, so second-sourcing is straightforward through any Renesas-authorized channel.
