What this ESD protection diode does
The ESD9101P2T5G is a Zener-type ESD protection diode from onsemi, designed to shunt transient overvoltage events on signal or data lines. It is a unidirectional device with a single channel, intended for general-purpose ESD clamping in compact surface-mount assemblies. The reverse standoff voltage is 5V max, and the breakdown voltage starts at 5.3V minimum. Capacitance is 0.36 pF at 1 MHz — low enough to preserve signal integrity on high-speed interfaces without introducing significant insertion loss or signal skew.
Housed in a SOD-923 package (supplier device package SOD-923), this is a surface-mount device with a very small footprint. The low profile suits space-constrained PCBs in mobile, wearable, and IoT designs. No power line protection is offered — this is a signal-line ESD clamp, not a power rail TVS.
The wide Tj range also allows the diode to absorb repetitive low-energy transients without derating.
