Kinetis KL3 MCU with integrated segment LCD driver
The 1.71 V minimum supply lets it run directly from two alkaline cells or a Li-ion battery near end-of-discharge, simplifying the power path in portable metering equipment. 128 KB Flash and 16 KB RAM position it for firmware with a moderate feature set: a Modbus stack, a segment LCD update routine, and a few PID loops fit comfortably; a full TCP/IP stack with graphics framebuffer would strain the memory budget.
Package and integration note
Housed in a 100-LQFP (14 mm × 14 mm), this surface-mount package suits standard reflow assembly lines. The 84 GPIO lines give headroom for parallel LCD data buses, keypad matrices, and external sensor interrupts.
