48 MHz Cortex-M0+ — what it buys you on a control loop
The MKL16Z64VFT4 runs a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ core at 48 MHz, with 64 KB Flash and 8 KB RAM on a single-supply 1.71–3.6 V rail. The 40 I/O lines, plus I²C, SPI, USART, LINbus, and I²S, cover a mixed-signal sensor hub or a small motor-control node.
Rated -40 to 105 °C, this MCU handles outdoor telecom cabinets, engine-bay sensor interfaces, and factory-floor controllers without a heat sink. The 48-VFQFN (7x7 mm) exposed pad helps conduct heat to the PCB plane.
Peripherals and integration
On-chip brown-out detect, LVD, POR, and a watchdog timer reduce external supervisor ICs. The 16-bit ADC and 12-bit DAC handle analog sensor conditioning; the touch-sensing interface (TSI) supports capacitive touch buttons without a dedicated controller. Internal oscillator saves a crystal for non-critical timing.
