What the ratings mean for the DC-DC rail
The DFE252008C-2R2M=P2 is a shielded wirewound drum-core inductor from Murata's DFE252008C series, built with flat-wire windings on an iron-powder core. The 2.2 µH inductance at ±20% tolerance is tested at 1 MHz, which is the standard test frequency for this value range and aligns with the switching frequency of many buck converters in the 1–3 MHz band. The 950 mA continuous current rating is the DC current at which the temperature rise stays within the part's self-heating limit — this is the number to size against the RMS load current, not the peak transient. The 1.6 A saturation current (Isat) is the point where inductance drops by about 30% due to core saturation; a DC-DC converter drawing 1.2 A peaks will still hold most of the inductance, but the ripple current will increase and the output voltage ripple will rise. Maximum DC resistance is 180 mOhm. At 950 mA, I²R loss is about 162 mW — negligible for most boards, but in a dense 1008 footprint with 0.80 mm seated height, the heat has to conduct through the pads into the PCB copper pour.
Package and rework consideration
The surface-mount terminations are tin-plated and compatible with standard SAC305 reflow profiles.
