Automotive-grade suppression in a 0402 footprint
The BLM15AX121SZ1D is a single-line ferrite bead from Murata's EMIFIL® BLM15 series, qualified to AEC-Q200. This means the part has passed the full suite of automotive stress tests — thermal shock, moisture resistance, vibration, and solderability — required for a PPAP submission. For an under-hood ECU or a body-control module, that qualification is the difference between a part that ships and one that gets rejected at the OEM auditor's desk. Delivering 120 Ohms impedance at 100 MHz, this bead targets conducted EMI on power or signal lines switching in the 10–100 MHz band — common for buck converters, CAN bus filtering, and low-speed sensor interfaces.
DC resistance and thermal budget
The 130 mOhm maximum DCR sets a hard ceiling on the voltage drop and self-heating. The 0402 (1005 Metric) body dissipates that heat into the PCB copper; a solid ground-plane pour under the pad keeps the temperature rise under 10 °C at rated current. The ferrite's impedance curve shifts with temperature — expect roughly 15–20 % drop in impedance at 125 °C compared to room temperature — so a filter designed at 25 °C with 120 Ohms may provide only 100 Ohms suppression at the hot end of the range.
