1500W bidirectional TVS in a DO-214AB SMC package
The SMCJ9.0CA-13-F: The single bidirectional channel means it handles both positive and negative surges without needing two diodes.
What the ratings mean on the bench
For a 9V rail, the breakdown voltage starts at 10V minimum, so the diode stays out of the way during normal operation and only conducts when a surge pushes the line above that threshold. The clamping voltage of 15.4V at 97.4A means the protected circuit sees at most 15.4V across its supply pins during a worst-case surge — well within the tolerance of most 12V-rated ICs on a 9V bus. The -55°C to 150°C junction temperature range covers both cold-start automotive and hot industrial enclosures.
The DO-214AB SMC footprint is a common reflow package — it fits standard pick-and-place equipment and reflow profiles for lead-free soldering. The bidirectional design simplifies BOM layout by eliminating the need for a bridge rectifier or paired unidirectional diodes.
