Automotive-grade transient suppression for 70V rails
The SMCJ70AQ-13-F is a 70V unidirectional TVS diode from Diodes Incorporated, part of the Automotive SMCJ series qualified to AEC-Q101.
What the key ratings mean for the BOM decision
The 70V reverse standoff voltage is the continuous DC rail this diode protects — it stays off below that level and only conducts when a transient exceeds the 77.8V minimum breakdown. The 1.5kW power rating is the product of clamp voltage and peak current — derate this above 25°C ambient per the datasheet curve, as junction temperature directly limits the energy the part can absorb in a single event. The AEC-Q101 qualification means the part passed thermal cycling, high-temperature reverse bias, and ESD stress tests required for PPAP submission. An OEM auditor will ask for the AEC-Q101 certificate and the lot-specific PPAP documentation before signing off.
Package and board footprint for layout
The layout engineer should connect the tab to a ground plane with adequate copper area — the 1.5kW pulse energy dissipates through this thermal pad, not through the device leads. Tape & Reel packaging supports high-volume pick-and-place.
