Transient protection window and pulse rating
The SMCJ51A-13-F: That 82.4V ceiling is what the downstream silicon sees — keep it below the absolute-maximum rating of the protected device. The 10/1000µs pulse is the industry-standard TVS test condition — the 1500W rating is valid only for that waveshape; shorter pulses allow higher peak current, longer ones derate the power.
Package and board integration
Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the same footprint used across the 1.5kW SMCJ family. The SMC body is larger than the SMA/SMB siblings — the extra copper area under the cathode tab is what carries the thermal pulse. Reflow profile follows standard lead-free soldering; the package is compatible with tape-and-reel feed for automated placement. Power line protection is marked as 'No' — this is a signal-rail or low-impedance bus clamp, not a primary AC mains suppressor. Mount it close to the transient entry point (connector or power jack) to minimise loop inductance between the TVS and the protected IC.
