Transient protection for 51V rails
The SMCJ51A-13: Its 82.4V maximum clamping voltage at 18.2A peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform) means a 51V supply bus seeing a surge will be held below 83V — well within the typical 100V abs-max of downstream DC-DC converters and load switches. The 56.7V minimum breakdown voltage provides a guard band above the 51V standoff, so the diode stays transparent during normal operation and only conducts when the transient exceeds the threshold.
Package and temperature envelope
Housed in the industry-standard DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the SMCJ51A-13 shares the same footprint as other 1500W TVS diodes from Littelfuse, Vishay, and STMicroelectronics — a single PCB layout can qualify multiple sources without a board spin. Available in both Tape & Reel and Cut Tape options, the packaging supports automated pick-and-place assembly at any volume. The SMC body's 8.0mm x 6.8mm footprint and 2.3mm height fit standard clearance profiles on 1.6mm-thick PCBs.
Sourcing and lifecycle position
This is a current-production part available through authorized distribution and independent channels — no lifecycle risk for new designs or ongoing production. For BOM hedging, the SMCJ51A-13 is pin-compatible with other 1500W DO-214AB TVS diodes at the same 51V standoff voltage, including the Littelfuse SMCJ51A and Vishay SMCJ51A. The base product number SMCJ51 indicates the family; the -13 suffix denotes Diodes Inc's specific packaging code, not a functional difference.
