Clamping voltage and standoff margin
The SMCJ5.0CA-13-F: The 5 V reverse standoff voltage (working voltage) is the DC rail level at which the diode draws negligible leakage — below this threshold it stays out of the circuit. The minimum breakdown voltage is 6.4 V, so the device begins to conduct between 5 V and 6.4 V, providing a guard band before the 9.2 V clamping limit.
Package and temperature range
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the SMCJ5.0CA-13-F occupies a standard footprint for 1500 W TVS diodes — the large copper tab on the cathode side conducts heat into the PCB copper pour, keeping junction temperature within the -55°C to 150°C operating range. Supplied on Tape & Reel (Cut Tape also available), it is compatible with reflow soldering and automated pick-and-place assembly.
The device is a general-purpose TVS diode (Circuit Protection category), with no power-line protection feature — it is intended for signal and low-power DC rail transient suppression, not for AC mains input protection.
