AEC-Q101 — the automotive gate
The SMCJ26CAQ-13-F: This TVS is part of the Automotive series and carries AEC-Q101 qualification — the discrete-semiconductor equivalent of AEC-Q100 for ICs. That means it has passed the full suite of stress tests: temperature cycling, high-temperature reverse bias, and ESD robustness per the automotive reliability standard. An OEM auditor will accept the PPAP documentation for this part without a waiver. The operating junction temperature range spans -55°C to 150°C, covering the full underhood ambient envelope where grade-1 or grade-0 ICs sit. A 105°C engine-bay environment still leaves 45°C of margin before the die reaches its absolute-maximum rating.
1.5 kW clamping — what 35.6 A at 42.1 V means
The 26 V reverse standoff voltage means the device stays off below that rail — no leakage-induced power loss on a 24 V system — and the minimum breakdown of 28.9 V ensures the avalanche triggers before the protected circuitry sees overstress. For an automotive 24 V bus that sees both load-dump and reverse-battery events, one SMCJ26CAQ-13-F covers both polarities without needing a series diode.
