Product details

1.5 kW peak pulse, AEC-Q101 qualified

The SMCJ26AQ-13-F is a 1500 W (1.5 kW) peak pulse power Zener TVS diode from Diodes Incorporated, qualified to AEC-Q101 automotive grade. Its 26 V reverse standoff voltage (Vrwm) means it clamps transients above the 28.9 V minimum breakdown threshold, holding the line at a maximum clamping voltage of 42.1 V at the 35.6 A peak pulse current (10/1000 µs waveform). This is the part that sits across a 24 V automotive bus rail to absorb load-dump and inductive kickback without letting the downstream ECU see a spike.

Package and rework reality

Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, this is a surface-mount part with a large copper tab on the bottom. The tab is the cathode — it carries the heat out to the PCB copper pour. Under a hot-air station, the SMC body soaks heat fast; preheat the board to 100-120°C before hitting the joint, or you risk lifting the pad before the solder flows. Pin 1 is the cathode end, marked by a band on the body — no ambiguity when you rework it. The wide temp window also means this part handles the thermal cycling of an engine bay without derating the clamping voltage at the hot end.
