1500 W peak pulse in a DO-214AB footprint
The SMCJ17A-13 is a 1500 W (1.5 kW) Zener TVS diode in the standard DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package. It clamps a 17 V reverse standoff to 27.6 V max at a peak pulse current of 53.3 A (10/1000 µs waveform). The 1500 W rating means it absorbs a single-pulse transient up to that peak power without failing — useful for protecting a 12 V or 15 V rail from inductive load dumps or lightning-induced surges. The 27.6 V clamp voltage stays below the typical breakdown of downstream 30 V-rated components.
Temperature range and board integration
The DO-214AB footprint is a standard JEDEC outline — the copper pad area under the cathode tab sets the thermal resistance to the board. No power line protection (the part is unidirectional, single-channel), so it guards a single signal or power rail, not an AC mains input. The unidirectional channel means it clamps only one polarity — the other polarity forward-conducts like a Schottky, which is typical for DC rail protection.
The reel should be stored dry — the DO-214AB package is not moisture-sensitive by default, but the tape-and-reel carrier may require ESD-safe handling per JEDEC J-STD-033.
