1.5 kW transient suppressor for 160 V DC rails
The SMCJ160A-13: Its 160 V reverse standoff voltage means it sits across a 160 V DC bus without conducting leakage; the 259 V maximum clamping voltage defines the upper transient limit the protected circuitry must survive. This is a surface-mount part in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, suited for general-purpose transient suppression on power rails, telecom lines, and industrial DC buses.
What the ratings mean for the BOM line
The 5.8 A peak pulse current is the current the diode shunts during a 10/1000 µs surge event — at 259 V clamp, the device absorbs 1.5 kW for that pulse width. The -55°C to +150°C junction temperature range covers automotive under-hood and industrial enclosure ambient extremes; the device derates linearly above 25°C, so at 85°C ambient the peak pulse power is roughly 75% of the 1500 W rating. Power line protection is not supported, meaning this is a signal or DC rail suppressor, not a mains AC line protector.
Package and board integration
The DO-214AB (SMC) package is a standard surface-mount footprint with a cathode band for polarity identification.
