AEC-Q101 Bidirectional TVS for 15V Automotive Rails
The SMCJ15CAQ-13-F is a 1500W bidirectional Zener TVS diode from Diodes Incorporated, purpose-built for automotive electronics where AEC-Q101 qualification is non-negotiable. Its 15V reverse standoff voltage and 24.4V clamping at 61.5A peak pulse current protect 12V and 15V supply rails from load-dump and inductive surge transients per ISO 7637-2.
Surge Rating and Clamp Performance
The 61.5A peak pulse current is the current the diode shunts during the transient; the clamping voltage of 24.4V is the maximum voltage the protected load sees at that current. Power line protection is not supported, so this part is best suited for signal and low-power supply rail clamping rather than main battery bus protection.
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, the part has a large copper pad on the cathode side — the thermal pad area on the PCB directly sets the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance. Surface mount with standard reflow profiles; The bidirectional construction means no polarity marking concerns during pick-and-place — orientation is irrelevant.
