Product details

TVS clamping envelope and board-level fit

The SMCJ130A-13: The clamping envelope is defined by three voltages: reverse standoff at 130 V (the DC bias it passes without leakage), breakdown at 144 V minimum (where it starts conducting), and clamping at 209 V maximum at the 7.2 A peak pulse current. The 65 V gap between standoff and clamp gives the protection margin — a 130 V rail sees no conduction during normal operation, but a 209 V clamp catches transients before they reach the 250 V typical MOSFET drain rating. Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) package, the device sits on the board with the cathode tab as the primary heat path. The SMC footprint is larger than the SMA/SMB siblings — the extra copper area under the tab pulls heat from the junction during the pulse, which matters for repetitive surge events where the average power builds.

Temperature range and production status

The 150°C TJ ceiling means the TVS can sit on a hot PCB near a regulator or a motor driver without derating the pulse power — the 1500 W rating holds across the entire range, unlike parts that derate above 25°C.
