1500 W peak pulse, 10 V rail protection
The SMCJ10A-13: It clamps transients on a 10 V nominal rail to 17 V maximum, shunting up to 88.2 A of surge current away from the protected circuit. The 10 V reverse standoff voltage means this part sits across a 10 V supply line without conducting in normal operation. When a transient exceeds the 11.1 V minimum breakdown threshold, the Zener junction avalanches and clamps the voltage to 17 V, absorbing the surge energy. This is a standard protection scheme for 10 V power buses, signal lines, and I/O ports in general-purpose equipment.
Package and board-fit
The wide junction temperature headroom means the TVS can absorb repetitive surges without derating at elevated ambient temperatures, as long as the average power dissipation stays within the package's thermal limits.
The DO-214AB package is rated MSL 1 (moisture sensitivity level) per JEDEC, meaning no dry-baking is required before reflow — store the reels in ambient conditions and they are ready for the line.
