600W bidirectional Zener TVS for 5V rail protection
The SMBJ5.0CA-13-F: With a peak pulse power rating of 600W (10/1000µs waveform), it handles surge currents up to 65.2A before the clamping voltage reaches 9.2V max. The 5V reverse standoff voltage means the diode does not conduct at normal operating levels up to 5V, so it sits across the rail without leakage affecting the load. When a transient exceeds the 6.4V minimum breakdown, the Zener avalanches and clamps the spike to 9.2V — low enough to protect downstream 5V logic or power ICs rated for 10V abs-max.
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package, the SMBJ5.0CA-13-F has a standard footprint shared across the SMBJ family. The bidirectional configuration uses a single die with back-to-back Zener junctions, so no polarity orientation is needed during pick-and-place — the same reel serves both positive and negative transient clamping on the same rail.
