48V rail clamp in a rework-friendly SMB package
The SMBJ48A-13: It clamps at a maximum of 77.4V at its peak pulse current of 7.7A (10/1000µs waveform), absorbing 600W of peak pulse power. The 48V reverse standoff voltage means it stays out of the way during normal operation and only starts conducting when the line exceeds 53.3V breakdown.
Housed in the DO-214AA (SMB) package, this part is surface-mount and rework-friendly. The SMB footprint is large enough to hand-solder or hot-air rework without lifting pads, and the package body is clearly marked with the cathode band and part code — pin 1 orientation is unambiguous under a microscope. The -13 suffix indicates Tape & Reel packaging, but Cut Tape options are also available for prototyping.
Rated for operation from -55°C to 150°C junction temperature, this diode suits both cold-start industrial environments and hot enclosures near power supplies. The wide temperature range means the clamping voltage and leakage current shift predictably across the band — the 150°C ceiling is the absolute limit for junction temperature, not a recommended continuous ambient.
