AEC-Q101 and the automotive reliability baseline
The SMAJ48AQ-13-F: For a procurement or design team, that translates to PPAP-ready documentation and a reliability pedigree that matches under-hood or passenger-compartment temperature profiles.
If the downstream DC-DC converter or IC has an absolute maximum rating below 77.4V, an additional TVS or a series resistor may be needed to share the energy — but for most 48V automotive loads (which tolerate 60–80V transients), this clamp is well within the safe operating area. The 400W peak pulse power rating is derated linearly above 25°C; at 150°C junction temperature the derating factor is typically 0.65× per the AEC-Q101 derating curve, so the effective pulse power at the upper end of the -55°C to 150°C range is about 260W. That still covers the majority of automotive load-dump and inductive kickback events.
