Active TVS for 36V rail clamping
The SMAJ36A-13: It clamps transients on a 36V nominal rail to 58.1V maximum, with a breakdown voltage starting at 40V.
Clamping voltage and pulse current
The 58.1V maximum clamping voltage at 6.9A peak pulse current (10/1000µs) defines the voltage stress the downstream circuitry must survive. A 36V rail protected by this diode sees transients clamped just over 58V, which is within the abs-max rating of most 60V-rated DC-DC converters and linear regulators. The 400W peak pulse power rating at the standard 10/1000µs pulse covers typical ESD, load-dump, and inductive kickback events in 24V and 36V industrial and automotive auxiliary rails. The actual power capability increases for shorter pulses per the TVS derating curve.
DO-214AC SMA footprint and temperature range
The supplier device package is also designated SMA. No derating needed down to -55°C; at the hot end the 400W peak pulse power derates linearly above 25°C per the standard TVS derating curve.
