TVS diode with 30V standoff and 400W pulse rating
The SMAJ30A-13: Its 33.3V minimum breakdown voltage and 48.4V clamping at 8.3A peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform) mean it protects downstream components from surges up to 400W peak pulse power. Housed in the DO-214AC (SMA) package, it mounts directly onto a PCB surface — the small footprint suits tight layouts where board space is at a premium, but the junction-to-ambient thermal path relies on the copper pad area under the cathode tab.
Temperature range and operating envelope
The 150°C upper limit means it can sit next to a hot switching regulator or in an outdoor enclosure without derating the pulse capability at elevated ambient — though the peak pulse power curve in the datasheet drops above 25°C, so a 400W transient at 85°C derates to roughly 260W per the standard TVS derating factor.
