1.8 µH Shielded Drum Core — DC-DC Buck Output Filter Fit
The Coilcraft LPS5015-182MRC is a 1.8 µH ±20% shielded drum core power inductor in the LPS5015 low-profile series. The ferrite core and shielded winding contain the magnetic flux, reducing EMI radiated into adjacent PCB traces — a key concern in dense power-stage layouts for POL converters and module regulators.
Current Handling and Saturation Margin
Rated for 1.5 A continuous with a saturation current floor of 2.6 A. The 1.1 A gap between rated and saturation current provides headroom for transient load steps — a buck converter feeding a 1.2 A load at steady state won't see inductance roll-off during a 50% load transient. The 75 mOhm max DCR translates to 169 mW of copper loss at 1.5 A, which is manageable in the 5x5 mm footprint without exceeding the 125°C rated ambient. Self-resonant frequency at 128 MHz means the inductor behaves inductively well above typical 500 kHz to 2 MHz switching frequencies used in point-of-load converters. The 100 kHz test frequency is the standard inductance measurement point for power inductors — the actual inductance at 1 MHz will be slightly lower but still within the ±20% tolerance band for most designs.
Package Fit and Board Integration
This low profile suits tight card-edge clearance in blade servers, base station line cards, and portable instrumentation where the PCB stack height is constrained. The shielded ferrite core means the inductor can sit next to sensitive analog or RF sections without injecting switching noise into the signal path.
