AEC-Q101 Zener TVS for automotive and industrial rail protection
It protects a single 64 V rail — the reverse standoff voltage (VRWM) is 64 V — clamping transients to 103 V maximum at the 14.6 A peak pulse current (10/1000 µs waveform). Rated for 1500 W (1.5 kW) peak pulse power, the 1.5SMBJ64A-H absorbs higher-energy surges than a 600 W SMBJ part — the difference matters when the transient source impedance is low, such as load-dump or inductive kickback on a 48 V automotive bus. The minimum breakdown voltage is 71.1 V (VBR), giving a guard band above the 64 V standoff before the diode starts conducting leakage current.
Package, mounting, and production status
Housed in the standard DO-214AA (SMB) surface-mount package — the same footprint as the SMBJ series — so a layout already using SMBJ parts accepts this device without a board revision. AEC-Q101 qualification means the part has passed the full suite of automotive stress tests (HTRB, H3TRB, temperature cycling, ESD) and is supported with PPAP documentation — a requirement for Tier-1 and OEM BOMs.
