Clamping voltage and peak current — the real protection envelope
At the 33.1A peak pulse current (10/1000µs), the clamping voltage is held to 45.4V maximum. That means a 28V nominal rail sees the transient clipped below 46V — well within the typical 60V abs-max of downstream 24V-rated ICs and modules. The breakdown voltage range starts at 31.1V minimum, so the device begins conducting before the rail exceeds the 28V standoff by more than about 3V. Bidirectional construction (single channel) protects both polarities with one component — useful on AC-coupled signal lines or DC rails subject to reverse battery connection.
Package and board-fit — DO-214AA SMB
The package handles the 1500W pulse without derating at 25°C ambient; above that, the peak pulse power derates linearly per the datasheet curve. Supplied in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) options for pick-and-place assembly. The base product number is 1.5SMBJ, so the same reel can serve multiple breakdown voltage variants across the BOM.
