5V fixed output — the BOM anchor for precision rails
The REF02CSA+T is a 5V fixed-output series voltage reference from Analog Devices' REF02 family. It accepts an input from 8V to 30V and delivers a regulated 5V at up to 21 mA output current — enough to bias multiple ADC reference inputs or a small analog front-end without an extra buffer. For a 10°C shift, the output moves about 3.25 mV — a factor to consider when the ADC full-scale error budget is tight.
12 µVp-p low-frequency noise floor
A 16-bit ADC with a 5V reference sees about 76 µV per LSB; the reference's own noise consumes roughly 16% of that budget before the ADC's noise is added. For 18-bit or higher systems, external filtering or a lower-noise reference is worth evaluating. The 1.6 mA quiescent supply current is modest — the reference's own draw adds to the system power budget but stays well below the 21 mA output ceiling, so the load current dominates total consumption in most designs.
