Stereo audio CODEC with dual ADC/DAC channels
The MAX9880AETM+ is a stereo audio CODEC from Analog Devices, integrating two ADCs and two DACs in a 48-TQFN (6x6) package — a single-chip solution for bidirectional audio paths in portable and embedded systems. Sigma-delta modulation is employed on both the ADC and DAC sides, giving a dynamic range of 82 dB on the ADC and 96 dB on the DAC — the DAC figure is the one that governs the analog output noise floor and signal-to-noise ratio in the playback path.
Digital interface and supply rail flexibility
The data interface supports I²C, I²S, Serial, and SPI — the I²S lane handles the streaming audio payload, while I²C or SPI manages control register writes for gain, filter, and routing configuration without consuming a dedicated control bus. Both the analog and digital supply rails accept 1.65 V to 1.95 V — a single 1.8 V rail can power the entire CODEC, eliminating a secondary regulator when the system already runs on a 1.8 V core or I/O voltage. The operating temperature range spans -40°C to 85°C, covering industrial ambient conditions without derating the dynamic range — suitable for outdoor telecom, test equipment, or factory-floor audio processing.

Surface-mount assembly with a tube shipping medium — the tube format is standard for low-volume prototyping and rework, but for high-volume production the part is also available in tape-and-reel (check the ordering code suffix).
