Comparator with on-chip reference
The MAX971ESA+ is a single comparator with an integrated voltage reference in an 8-SOIC package — one part does the threshold-setting and the compare, saving the external reference IC and its decoupling capacitor from the BOM. Quiescent current maxes at 4 µA, so in a battery-powered threshold detector (over-temperature flag, undervoltage lockout, window comparator) the comparator itself is not the dominant drain.
Supply and signal conditions
Input offset voltage is 10 mV max at 5 V, and the built-in 50 mV hysteresis prevents output chatter when the input signal sits near the threshold — no external positive-feedback resistors needed. CMRR and PSRR are both 80 dB typical, so the threshold accuracy holds up when the supply rail droops or the common-mode voltage shifts — relevant in a noisy automotive or industrial 12 V environment.
