Built-in depop circuitry suppresses the turn-on/turn-off thump that otherwise needs an external mute relay or series capacitor. The mute and shutdown pins let a microcontroller or GPIO hold the amplifier quiet during power-up sequencing, and the thermal protection shuts down the output if the die overheats — useful if the speaker impedance drops below 3 Ω momentarily.
