7 ns comparator for high-speed threshold detection
The Maxim Integrated MAX961EUA+ is a single, general-purpose comparator from the Beyond-the-Rails™ family. It delivers a 7 ns propagation delay, making it suitable for high-speed signal conditioning, zero-crossing detectors, and overcurrent/overvoltage fault triggers in control loops. The 3.5 mV of built-in hysteresis eliminates output chatter near the trip point without external positive feedback resistors — a clean edge every time. Outputs are CMOS, complementary, and TTL-compatible. The single-supply range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V matches common digital supply voltages.
Supply and signal integrity
Typical CMRR of 80 dB and PSRR of 86.02 dB give this part decent immunity to common-mode shifts and rail ripple. In a motor-drive or power-converter environment where the ground plane bounces, those numbers keep the threshold stable. Input offset voltage is spec'd at 1.5 mV max at 5 V, and input bias current is 15 µA max — both typical for a fast comparator and not a concern unless you are sensing microvolt-level signals.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in an 8-pin uMAX/uSOP (3 mm × 3 mm body), the MAX961EUA+ takes minimal board area. The -40°C to 85°C operating range covers industrial enclosures, outdoor telecom cabinets, and under-hood electronics that see underhood soak temperatures. Surface-mount assembly only — no through-hole variant.
Lifecycle and compliance
The MAX961EUA+ carries an Active product status with ROHS3 compliance. Suitable for both new designs and production replenishment. The ROHS3 declaration covers the full bill of materials — no red phosphorus or restricted phthalates in the mold compound.
