Single comparator with a built-in reference — what it means on the bench
The MAX9118EXK+T is a single comparator with an integrated voltage reference. It operates on a single supply from 1.6V to 5.5V and has an open-drain output.
45 µs propagation delay — slow enough to ignore noise, fast enough for most thresholds
The 45 µs max propagation delay is not for high-speed comparator work — it is a deliberate trade-off for low power. With 1.6 µA max quiescent current, this part sips power while it watches a battery voltage or a temperature sensor. The 4 mV internal hysteresis cleans up slow-moving signals without external feedback. If you need a faster response, the same family includes parts with lower delay; but for a threshold monitor that runs on a coin cell, this delay is a feature, not a limitation.
Open-drain output — level translation and wired-OR without extra parts
The open-drain output sinks up to 50 mA typical. The SC-70-5 package is small enough for cramped boards but still hand-solderable with a fine tip.
