1-cell Li-Ion charger with USB input and power-path management
The MAX8903EETI+ is a single-cell lithium-ion battery charger IC from the Smart Power Selector™ family, designed for USB-powered portable devices. It integrates a constant-current, constant-voltage charge controller with an internal power-FET and a programmable charge current up to 2 A. The device accepts a USB input and operates from a supply voltage up to 16 V, covering both standard USB bus power and higher-voltage wall adapters. Over-voltage fault protection on the input prevents damage from out-of-spec adapters. The 4.1 V battery pack voltage targets standard Li-ion cells, and the programmable charge current and timer allow the designer to tailor the charge profile to the cell capacity and thermal budget of the enclosure.
Package, footprint and reflow considerations
The supplier device package is 28-TQFN (4x4). Surface-mount assembly with a standard lead-free reflow profile is expected; the tube packaging means the parts are delivered in anti-static tubes suitable for tray-fed pick-and-place machines.
