Product details

Boost converter for serial-LED backlight strings

The MAX8901AETA+T is a DC-DC regulator using a step-up (boost) topology, designed to drive a single LED string for backlight applications. The internal switch handles the boost conversion, so no external FET is needed for the power stage. Each channel delivers 25 mA, a common forward current for small-panel backlights. Dimming is controlled via PWM, which avoids the colour shift that analog current adjustment introduces at low brightness levels.

Switching frequency and package constraints

The frequency is fixed, so the layout must keep the switch node loop tight to minimise radiated emissions.

ROHS3 compliant — the termination finish is matte tin over a nickel barrier, compatible with lead-free reflow profiles.

Frequently asked questions

What dimming method does the MAX8901AETA+T support?

PWM dimming. The PWM signal applied to the CTRL pin modulates the LED current on and off at the switching frequency, giving a linear brightness range from 0 to 100 % without colour shift.
