600 mA synchronous buck in an 8-SOIC
The MAX887HESA+T is a step-down (buck) switching regulator from Analog Devices, delivering up to 600 mA from a 3.5 V to 11 V input rail. It integrates a synchronous rectifier, which eliminates the external Schottky catch diode typically needed in a buck converter — the internal low-side FET takes the return current, and the efficiency gain is most visible at lower output voltages where the diode drop would otherwise dominate the loss budget.
Switching frequency and output filter sizing
The oscillator runs between 250 kHz and 350 kHz. That frequency band is a deliberate trade-off: the inductor and output capacitor stay small enough for a compact layout (a 10 µH to 22 µH shielded inductor is typical), while the switching losses in the internal FETs remain manageable at the 600 mA load. The 350 kHz upper end keeps the ripple current amplitude low enough that the output capacitor ESR does not push the ripple voltage past the load's tolerance.
Temperature range and board-level fit
The surface-mount assembly is standard reflow; no special bake-out profile beyond the MSL level marked on the reel label.
