Fault protection set for real-world USB ports
The MAX8586ETA+T integrates four protection mechanisms: adjustable current limiting (set with an external resistor), over-temperature shutdown, reverse-current blocking (prevents backflow when VOUT > VIN), and UVLO that holds the switch off until the input rail is stable. Auto Restart means the part periodically retries after a fault — useful for hot-plug events where a momentary overload clears. The Status Flag output signals fault conditions to the host controller.
Package and temperature grade
Housed in an 8-TDFN (3x3mm) with an exposed pad, the MAX8586ETA+T requires a thermal via pattern under the pad for adequate heat dissipation — without it, junction temperature rises quickly above 400mA continuous. The -40°C to 85°C operating range covers industrial, outdoor telecom, and automotive cabin environments (non-AEC). Surface-mount assembly with standard reflow profiles; MSL level is typical for this package class, so bake before reflow if the moisture barrier bag has been open past floor life.
Sourcing and lifecycle
It is ROHS3 compliant. No second-source or official cross-reference is listed in the manufacturer's documentation, so single-source risk applies — plan for a qualified alternate if dual-sourcing is required.
