What the N+1 ORing controller does in a redundant supply
The MAX8535EUA+ is an N+1 ORing controller designed to drive an external N-Channel MOSFET, acting as the ideal diode in redundant power feeds. It replaces a Schottky ORing diode with a lower-loss FET, cutting forward voltage drop and heat in high-availability supplies. Target applications include redundant power supplies and telecom infrastructure — any 8V to 14V rail where a fault on one feed must not back-feed into the other. The controller draws 2 mA from the rail and shuts the FET off in 200 ns when the input drops, preventing reverse current.
Package and board-fit details
Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C, covering industrial and telecom ambient conditions. The part does not integrate the power FET internally — the external N-Channel MOSFET must be selected for the load current and heatsinking.
Sourcing and compliance
ROHS3 compliant per the listing.
